MGFD rumor (Miami)

I heard a rumor that Michael was opening another restaurant. Has anyone heard anything about this? I hope there is no validity to this. (from a selfish standpoint)

  1. I got a link sent out this morning that Pacific Time starts serving dinner tonight... the site quotes the same press release the Miami New Times "writes" about. Now I'm wondering -- If Michael's is "Genuine," what does that make Jonathan's?

Herald <<We hear the new PT will offer moderately priced eclectic menus for lunch and dinner, a big bar area and a fabulous enclosed courtyard. To please the eco-maniacs out there, Eismann has incorporated a self-carbonating, filtered water system eliminating the cost and waste associated with those frivolous bottled waters. Eismann also plans to feature, like his neighbor Michael Schwartz, local, natural and organic products. >>

Does that mean he'll have old-timey seltzer bottles on the tables? I think he should definitely revive the Egg Cream!!

Trendwachers know - Local and sustainable are IN - Green is the new Black.

To be truly local, I think he should have called this restaurant Atlantic Time...
Or something Genuine like Biscayne Basic.

The problem with the "green" water system that Eisman has, is that it irradiates the water!
I for one, will have no problem with Schwartz opening something else. What's wrong with more great food?

Well, it's hard to be in two places at the same time and it also becomes difficult to maintain the same quality level. Not saying it's impossible but it does happen.

    2. He'd be crazy not to. He's got a goldmine in a place that's successful because of his vision and passion. If he's got the energy to open another place then more power to him. What I hope he doesn't do is start city-hopping a la Govind Armstrong (I love Table 8 in L.A. but the one in Miami is just missing something). Michael's is a Miami creation and while he could probably open in another city which has easier access to good produce, I don't think it would have the same impact as it did here.

And from a selfish standpoint I hope that whatever he opens it's in the DD as well.

I love MGFD in Miami. It's one of the few places serving excellent food at reasonable prices (that and Sardinia). I agree with you 100% that him bringing cal/cal-influenced/local produce driven cusine to Miami has a huge impact on the dining scene here (hence the success). However, I hope he has the sense not to city hop. He would get lost in cities where the dining scene is more evolved and just get crushed in others.
