Best Mashed potatoes in montreal?

This may seem like an odd request but one of my girlfriend's favorite foods is mashed potatoes and it would really please her if I found a place that does them exceptionally well. My favorite so far have been at Au Pied de Cochon but I know there must be more out there.

  1. Leméac turns out a decent mash, most often encountered under their gorgeous hunk of calf's liver. Joe Beef's are excellent. But, really, I think you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere that takes them as seriously as APDC.

I would second Lemeac's mashed potatoes "aligot" that they serve with their grilled veal and morels.

    2. the Irish Embassy pub on Bishop uses buttermilk & real butter in theirs- they're quite yummy.

      1. While I have no idea if they're the best in the city (I don't tend to order mashed anywhere else!) I'm quite fond of the garlic mashed potatoes at Mesquite. Maybe try out a side order yourself in advance and see if they'd meet your girlfriend's standards. :-)

        1. Any French bistro worth its salt will have good mashed potatoes a.k.a. pommes purée. I've had really good ones at L'Express, Leméac and Chez Lévêque. They weren't exceptional or innovative. They were just standard French-style mashed potatoes done well.

If you like cheesy potatoes, keep an eye out for "aligot" on restaurant menus.

There are two places that I loved. First was Queue de Cheval and the second much to my surprise because this restaurant had so many hot and misses on the night I went was La Prunelle on Duluth East.
La Prunelle is BYOB, a terrasse in the summer as the gorgeous windows open out to the street, the food is hard to pin down, quite an adventure for sure.
              Good luck!

            2. Thank you for your responses. I'm researching the places you all have suggested and I'll let you know the verdict!
