help finding coffee stuff--chemex, vacuum, etc
I am on a mission to find some of the old-is-new resurge of some classic brewing methods--I'd love to buy them here in the LA area as opposed to buying them online. Has anyone seen any of these locally for sale
--an old school chemex, with the groovy wood thing in the middle
--a vacuum coffee maker, such as the bodum santos vacum brewer, the cona, the yama, or any on this link

I know I saw a chemex at Groundwork in Hollywood, but I don't know if it's an old school one.

Vacuum online, or ristretto's suggestion.
Hot air popcorn poppers are littering the landscapes of your local Goodwill store. Stir-Crazy poppers can be found at Goodwill stores with a little more footwork. Hot air guns are available at Home Depot, Lowes, or Harbor Freight, and big metal bowls at Smart & Final, etc.
P.S. Aside from vacuum brewing, IMHO Aeropress has all the other brewing methods beat (and some will argue *that it is* better than vacuum), so don't go too crazy amassing a pile of retro toys.

Peet's Coffee places have Chemex filters (as of right now, the ONLY place I've been able to find them here). Inside each box of filters is a big card listing all of the pots and accessories available from the factory, and their prices. I've used this service to get a glass stopper, and a replacement for the "groovy wood thing", too, both quite reasonable. The pot I got at a yard sale eons ago, but I see them all the time at flea markets. The hand-blown ones are pretty expensive, but the molded glass ones are affordable new, and can be dirt cheap bought second-hand. For my money it's the best damn coffee maker ever invented.

Aeropress is the best !!!! (if you can't afford a Clover for your home).
Immersion is the new way to go....Aeropress is the easy to use, easy to clean and you can use the filters over and over if you want.
