3 days in Dallas

Hi, I'll be in Dallas for 3 days next week. I'll be staying at the Fairmont and won't have a car. I deifnitely wanted to get Tex-Mex & BBQ in...What are some good suggestions for Lunch & Dinner (for dinner, nothing to pricey, entree price $15 - $25)?

Thanks!

  1. Will you be able to take a taxi? Dallas isn't extactly a very pedestrian friendly city. Downtown doesn't really have any great places to recommend for what you are looking for...most are in Uptown which is not too far away!

      Yeah, I'll take a taxi ride for sure...I heard they have a free Trolley near by as well?

        That will open up your suggestions!

        As for the Trolley....this would be your link for that. McKinney Avenue Transit Authority

        As for along McKinney I will leave it up to others to make most of the suggestions.

        Primo's was mentioned as on of the top places for sour cream chicken enchiladas in the following post. It is along the trolley line or not to far from the end of the line.

        Pepe & Mitos is in Deep Ellum which is just on the other side of I-45 from downtown. There is an El Fenix close to your hotel but I wouldn't reccommend it.

        BBQ is not very good here. Best place was/is Baby Back Shak close to the Dallas Police HQ south of downtown unfortunately it burned a few months back and not sure if they have rebuilt. Not sure if anyone has any updates on that???

        $15 - $25 for most places here in Dallas is pricey!

        Off the subject of food, since you are going to be close by I would definitely suggest getting some culture in on a short walk fron your hotel. A free museum is the Tramell and Margert Crow Collection of Asian Art the Trammell Crow Tower (across from the Nasher Sculpture Center and about a half block from the Dallas Museum of Art

        )

          I can confirm that Baby Back Shak is back in business since I just went there last week for lunch.

            Awesome!

            Thanks for the update Michaela!

    2. Also off the trolley route is The West Village www.westvil.com which has a bunch of restaurants and shops. Taco Diner is a good choice for Tex-Mex - which is better than Primos (on trolley route) or Mi Cocina (which is also in the West Village). Not sure where you are from or if you can get these kind of things....there is also NY coal oven pizza (Grimaldis) or Italy- Italian pizza (Campagna) also in West Village.

      1. Best BBQ in the downtown area and one of the best in the city is Sammy's 2126 Leonard St, Dallas, TX 75201 · 214-880-9064. It's right by Federal Reserve, so technically it's not in downtown, but is immediately adjacent to downtown and only about a 10 min. walk from the Fairmont. It's only open for lunch and in addition to fine BBQ, the sides are fantastic, particularly the fried okra.

        For dinner, try Angela's Bistro 51 www.angelasbistro51.com, also just outside the loop, but only about a 1- 2 minute walk from Sammy's.
