This stuff will make you beg for whoppers to rinse your mouth out.

    1. re: Paul Weller

I'll agree with you. Whoppers seem like nothing compared to durian candy. One of the big points about eating durian is the creamy custardy texture (yet, I still hate it). Without that creaminess, you might as well be sucking on a rotting onion.

      1. re: Paul Weller

But the moron reviewer doesn't even know what durian is: "An unidentifiable -- to this reporter, at least -- fruit of some kind is featured prominently on the wrapper...:!

        1. re: Sam Fujisaka

Perhaps he is a moron but I would agree that Durian is an acquired taste that's kinda like enjoying siphoning gas outa cars!

        2. re: Paul Weller

Ugh-h, that sounds horrid! I've had durian fruit and it was wonderful, albeit difficult to eat without a mess. Glad I read this report, 'cause I might have picked up a bag, expecting the flavors of the durian fruit.

          Thanks for the warning,
          Hunt

          1. re: Bill Hunt

My boss had a bag of this stuff just a couple weeks ago. When he offered it up I looked at the durian on the bag and smelled the bag. It smelled god awful. He got several people to try it and the reactions varied from shock to outright gagging and dry heaves. It stunk up the office for the entire day.

        3. I love chocolate covered malt balls (the generic Whoppers). Maybe you just don't like malt flavor?

          1. re: Humbucker

            I love'em too!

            1. re: Lucia

Me, too - I love the easter egg colored whoppers - they are my favorite easter candy

          2. Cheap chocolate covered cherries are the worst candy I've ever eaten.

            1. re: sueatmo

Chocolate covered raisins are worse then cherries.

              1. re: Kelli2006

I think I've encountered choc covered raisins at some point. Don't like 'em. But the choc-cherries I've eaten actually leave a chemical taste in your mouth.

                1. re: sueatmo

Raisenettes right? They rock! Chocolate covered cherries taste like cough syrup. How about Necco wafers? Yuck.

                  1. re: southernitalian

Yes, Raisinettes. And I agree with sparkalina. You'd have to like the raisins to begin with, and I don't usually. I did as a young thing like Necco wafers, however.

                2. re: Kelli2006

I just recently tried dark chocolate covered raisins and they were better than the original...but you have to be able to tolerate the raisin to begin with.

                  1. re: sparkalina

I have never developed a taste from raisins, but I have learned to tolerate them in baked goods.

                    1. re: Kelli2006

Raisins are good. Chocolate is good. But chocolate-covered raisins (like Raisinettes) - ? Yuck!! (Some things just don't taste good together!)

                      1. re: Morticia

I'm so glad you said this! I love raisins and worship chocolate. But chocolate covered raisins are just terrible! (I thought I was the only one who hated these)

                3. re: sueatmo

YES YES YES THOSE ARE COMPLETELY NASTY NASTY NASTY I don't know who thought that chocolate covered cherries were good-It's a travesty that anyone would buy them or eat them....I feel ill just thinking about it.

                4. do live in the US?? I don't think they have Maltesers in the US, but in Canada they are a DELICIOUS version of Whoppers..yum!

                  1. re: burlgurl

You can get Maltesers in the US and I will attest that they are in fact delicious. Far superior to Whoppers (though I am a malt fiend and will take it where I can get it).

                  2. Oh, I always loved Whoppers. We used to get the big cartons of them and eat them till we were sick. I even found Whopper ice cream once.

What I've never been able to understand or properly appreciate is Bit-o-Honey. Do they still make those nasty little things?

                    1. re: revsharkie

Haven't had either of these in years, but used to love both--although I do remember not liking Bit-o-Honey and then suddenly developing a taste for it.

There was something my grandmother used to have in a Christmas candy mix that I always thought was nasty--a hard candy shell with some kind of jelly inside. Never did figure out what the flavor was (or was meant to be).

                      1. re: cmkdvs

I did the same thing with bit-o-honey. Inexplicably went from not liking it to loving it.
IMO the worst candy ever are the newly introduced chocolate skittles. They are literally the ONLY candy I have EVER thrown a basically full bag of in the trash. They are so artificial tasting, almost plastic-y.

                        1. re: ArikaDawn

Oh, I had the exact same experience. Curiosity compelled me to try the chocolate Skittles and I,too, committed the unprecedented act of throwing candy into the garbage!

I remember liking Bit-o-Honey (my mom looooves these) but have not had any in years. At this point I would be afraid of losing a filling.

                          1. re: ArikaDawn

                            >>IMO the worst candy ever are the newly introduced chocolate skittles.

Also, their commercial has to be one of the scariest on the air right now.

                            Holy cow.

I can't even imagine why someone THOUGHT that putting chocolate on a Skittle was a good idea.

                            1. re: dolores

AGREED! Those skittles are gross. I actually thought they were going to be good. BIG MISTAKE!

                              1. re: k1127

see, that's one of the good things about DVR. i fast forward thru all the commercials & didn't even know chocolate skittles existed. that sounds vile.

i used to love the original skittles, and for a brief period i was hooked on the sour/tart variety that came out in the mid 90's. are those still around?

                                1. re: goodhealthgourmet

yep, and i gave them out at halloween. i like them!

                                  1. re: alkapal

Skittles taste like floor wax. Or how floor wax smells, anyway. I give them out at Halloween because I know I won't eat any leftovers.

                                    1. re: Snackish

ANother poor sucker who saw the bag of chocolate Skittles at the store, bought them, and promptly threw the (almost) full bag into the trash.

                                      And I like regular Skittles.

                        2. re: revsharkie

I love bit-o-honey, but then again, I'm a taffy fan and pretty much like all candy in that category (i.e. sugar daddys, tootsie rolls, etc. :-)

                          1. re: DanaB

                            ditto on that.

                          2. re: revsharkie

No Bit-Of-Honey is good! It's been 25 years, but I still liked it when I was a kid.

                          3. I'm curious as to whether anyone actually likes the taste of conversation hearts.

                            1. re: Humbucker

i do ! love hearts are gooood. !

                              1. re: im_nomad

                                I'll second the love!

                              2. re: Humbucker

Yes, but only certain colors...white and green only for me.

                                1. re: justagthing

what is wrong with you guys?!?! they all taste like chalk!

                                  1. re: meredyth

Perhaps if you eat a lot of Rolaids, and the like, you enjoy the consistency. I'm with you; it's a lot like eating flavored chalk.

                                    1. re: Scargod

that would explain my love of original Rolaids!

                                  2. re: justagthing

We could share. I always toss out the white and green ones.

                                  3. re: Humbucker

I only like the yellow and orange ones.

                                    1. re: hotteacher1976

guess we can share a bag then, lol

                                    2. re: Humbucker

                                      Absolutely not!

                                      1. re: Humbucker

I teach and those stupid conversation hearts are a big part of every February. NASTY NASTY NASTY. The messages are cute, but they taste like Tums on steroids.

                                      2. Sen Sens...anyone remember them? Tasted just like soap.

                                        1. re: Val

Thrills gum..that purple chiclet type gum that tastes just like soap..
also I had a Norwegian friend that loved their imported black salty licorice..eewwwgg..

                                          1. re: burlgurl

Thrills yes............soap is right on the money.....aren't they violet flavored or something though?

                                            1. re: burlgurl

"Fisherman's Friend" was the salty licorice candy , and yes they are vile.

                                              1. re: currymouth

But Fisherman's Friend wasn't meant to be candy, it was meant to be a medicinal throat lozenge. http://www.fishermansfriend.ca/histor... They're not really supposed to taste good, just be effective.

                                                1. re: currymouth

No, it wasn't Fisherman's Friend..it seems in Norway/Sweden a very popular candy is a very hard, black licorice candy that is extremely salty..like a hard black cube of salt and licorice combined..You can find them at european import stores...

                                                  1. re: burlgurl

I am Norwegian and even when buying it from the corner kiosk as a kid, it is the same as Fisherman's Friend

                                                    1. re: currymouth

Hmm. When I visited Danmark, salted liquorice was vastly different from Fisherman's Friend. Salted licorice was small, black and salty, and pellet-shaped. Fisherman's Friends are like menthol and licorice combined. Different flavour AND appearance.

Here's a link to a picture of Fisherman's Friend as I know them.

                                                      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Fi...

And as for salted licorice, when I first tried it, I hated it. But now I sometimes enjoy it (in small amounts) for nostalgic reasons. I remember taht in Danmark, they would roll soft-serve ice cream cones in tiny bits of the stuff. I wasn't brave enough to try it then.

                                                      1. re: miss_bennet

there is also turkish pepper. which is swedish licorice hard candy with a strong black pepper taste.

                                                        1. re: miss_bennet

I have a bag of Dutch salt licorice pellets on my kitchen counter right now. If anybody wants them just come on down. They are truly disgusting. Only the Dutch could take all the pleasure out of candy. I love Fisherman's Friends, they are just "extreme" throat lozenges, not salty at all.

                                                          1. re: crawfish

I've always wanted to try Dutch licorice. Wanna mail that bag to me?

                                                        2. re: currymouth

Currymun, Lakris! Hva vor marka? What was the brand of those little addictive boxes? I'm wracking my brain. I can see the box, but not remember the brand. I used to buy a box each week along w/ my British soccer lottery ticket. Kvik Lunch rules and Fria on Friday!

                                                          1. re: Passadumkeg

Heisann! Married to a Norwegian - and a big lover of lakris. For little pastilles in little colorful boxes, I get IFA, Stupedama salt pastiller (with a diving woman on the box) and Lakerol, which I think is Swedish. I also love these bigger and softer and even saltier fish that come in a bag....think those are just called Salt Fisk. Oh, and one called PP. Love the firklover melksjokolade from Freia!

                                                            1. re: saticoy

                                                              I love firklovers!

                                                        3. re: burlgurl

In Holland there are hundreds of different types/flavors of licorice.... salty, sweet, extra salty and most of them are soooooo good but I know my american hubby hates the salty ones.... guess it's what you grew up with....
