Where is the best sit down breakfest in Boston?

I'm looking for a "go to" place on Sat and Sun mornings that has good/cheap food and coffee. Good homefries are a must!

  1. Ball Square in Somerville is the breakfast capital of the Boston area. It's also home to one of the fiercest restaurant rivalries in the area. There are three restaurants there that specialize in breakfast food and another that does coffee and pastries. Search for Ball Square and breakfast and you will get lots of discussion on this board. My favorite is Ball Square Cafe, but Sound Bites next store has lots of faithful and a liquor license.

Just came from a delectable breakfast at Ball Square Cafe this morning- I had a "Broadway Blues;" small cheese omelet, bacon, garlic mash home fries and a blueberry muffin that was split and grilled- yum! I'll be faithful to them unless I find something better..

Interesting - "Boston's Best Blue" at SoundBites is almost exactly the same thing. I wonder who had it first...

      1. Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe in the South End is excellent, but only open Saturdays.

Only Saturdays???? I had brkfst there last Wednesday. Good turkey hash BTW.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The OP was asking about Saturdays and Sundays, so I assumed these were the only options of interest to them. If memory serves, Charlie's is open for breakfast every day except Sundays.

My favorite lunch counter / diner meal is Charlie's turkey hash. It's really great and the atmosphere can't be beat.

        2. Doo Wop Diner in Malden Square.

          1. If you find yourself on the Northshore on a weekend morning, Red's in downtown Salem is #1 for a really good, plentiful & tasty breakfast.

            1. charlie's sandwich shoppe.

              1. centre street cafe in jp is pretty good, though it's crowded and loud (there's basically always a queue out the door waiting.)
