cleaning cast iron

I have read on here about different ways of cleaning cast iron with the self cleaning and sand blasting. I will be doing the sand blasting route any information i need to know before and after sandblasting them? Also how would i go about cleaning burn marks out of aluminum stock pots?

  1. Why do you want to sandblast the cast iron???

The beauty of cast iron is building up a patina of natural oils that coats and protects the iron and creates a non-stick surface. Sandblasting it or heat blasting it in an oven to burn off the coating defeats the purpose of cast iron - forcing you to start from scratch again.

Burn marks on aluminum pots, at the worst, can be sanded off. However, I don't mind them 'cause it makes me look "professional!"

the reason for sand blasting is that there is alot of rust and there is some plasic that got melted on there some how.

Since it is cast iron, you really can go to town with your sand blaster and it should be fine.
