Out of this world central Asian in the FH/Rego Pk area?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I loved the ragman noodle dish I used to get from a strictly Kosher Uzbekistani restaurant in Kew Gardens - but they are gone now.
Oh, I am not Kosher. It just so happen that this rest. was kosher.
Thanks foodies!

My current favorite is Cheburechnaya. There's a few others also about as good as this in the area as well.

Cheb or Arzu. Both are on Queens Blvd.

I like Cheburechnaya -- excellent food and friendly, welcoming service. Note thatit's NOT on Queens Blvd, but on 63rd Drive, 3 1/2 blocks from QB. I live around the corner from Arzu. It's the most unwelcoming restaurant I've ever seen.

I find a lot of the Central Asian rests. both intimidating and intriguing at the same time. And yes, lots of them come off to be unwelcoming especially if you are don't speak their language. The Uzbekistani rest. in KG had a menu that was literally in Russian entirely. I basically pointed to pictures of what looked good. Hey, it worked out.

They didn't strike me as being that bad. The whole wait staff was seated though.

I love Cheburechnaya. I read a review that said the "lamb fat" kabobs were worth a try. Indeed, they are delicious, albeit probably unhealthy as hell. Apparently the lamb fat is from the tail of a certain kind of lamb bred especially for their fatty tails. The assorted pickles plate is nice. here's a tip...when ordering the french fries, tell them you want garlic on them. They come loaded with garlic but only if you ask.

Went to Cheburechnaya in about the first week it opened up. The food was pretty good, but the service was mediocre. Undoubtedly could have changed in that time. I think it's time to go back.
Arzu-- sheesh. Great food, and inexpensive, but talk about unfriendly service.

Speak a little Russian with them and get a pot of tea so you don't have to worry about water refills. When I mean a little Russian I mean a LITTLE. Just hello thank you basically, then switch back instantly. If you're lucky they'll assume you speak it and you're not speaking it fluently because your guest isn't Russian (as happened with me.)
But yeah, ice runs through the veins of their wait staff.
Think of it as an authentic Russo-Uzbek experience, service included.

anyone eat at some of the newer places on queens blvd, closer to 63rd drive? thinking of the remodeled emerald restaurant, and also another new one, I think called Samarkand. Looked just a *little* bit more inviting than arzu; narrow room which was pretty crowded when I peeked in last week.

Haven't tried any of them yet. Haha, is Arzu really that uninviting? I expect crappy service and drab interiors; it's a way of life. Ok yeah, the weight staff at Arzu has ice running through their veins, but I didn't have a negative experience there. It kind of felt more personal than Cheb... maybe that was in a cold way though...
Nonetheless, good lagman...
