Shuhei sushi catastrophe (heartbroken Cleveland hound)
Sister and I ventured to Shuhei for lunch and our yearly holiday sushi pow-wow. We sit at a table after being greeted by Hiroshi, order a boatload of sushi, and wait. I turn around to look at the bar and I am shocked to see ONLY pre-cut fish (and a lot of it) in the cooler. Chirashi was small (dinner price), uninspired visually, flavorless, and half the selections were cooked or seared.....and I was ASKED whether I wanted cooked or raw, and responded with raw. My sister's rolls were so bland, especially after the waiter went on about the NEW menu and rolls. The only thing we enjoyed was the ikura. Yeah, great, you have a good source for salmon roe, congrats.
Shuhei used to the be the definitive top-shelf sushi experience, not anymore. The food has been slipping, the service is amatuerish and pushy....and I am heartbroken. Back to Pacific-East when I visit for this hound. The last time I ate there I sat at the bar and had piece after piece of delicious special cut sushi.
Has anybody been to Shinano lately?

This is not the first time I've heard about Shuhei coasting on reputation. Too bad, they were brilliant, once. Have you tried Aoeshi in North Olmsted?

Unfortunately, have not been to Aoeshi. The problem is that I am an eastsider and when I am in N.O. I am usually in a rush.

Pacific East has never failed to disappoint me from day one. Not the fanciest atmoshere, but always fresh and tasty

Hi there,
I am a West Sider, but not native, moved here from SoCal.
Have you ventured Downtown to Sushi Rock on 3rd?
Also i have hear the same thing about Aeoshi in NO and Sakura in Lakewood on Detroit is pretty good.
Sushi Rock is my fave local though...Love the Ebi, Toro, big smoked Eel fan and they have great American entrees as well.

fun vibe and i did like the big rolls but pacific east at coventry (and i've heard now elsewhere - also east though) has better sushi.

they've opened a branch at eton collection on chagrin blvd in woodmere.
