A wintry take on a warm-weather classic

On Wednesday, I was able to Peek through the construction wall since the door was open and it does not look anywhere near open. And I was @ the Jazz Bakery on Friday night and the wall was still up.

Thanks, on that note, I will be heading to Stuffed Sandwich in the meantime. Don't judge a book by its cover, there are 700+ beers in there. awesome.

False. Was over there today and they said for now it's looking like maybe mid/late January.

end of january is the latest target date. and stuffed sandwich is terrific, so you have nothing to apologize there. they have their holiday brews on tap at the moment!

Tell me more about Stuffed Sandwich! What and where is it?

Used to be on the Alhambra/San Gabriel side of Las Tunas Drive (Main st.) and has moved a few years ago to the San Gabriel/Temple City side of Las Tunas Drive. Driving by this place, you wouldn't expect much of it. But if you're a beer lover, on look inside and you'll be impressed. I thought it was going to a be a sandwich shop, as promised by the business name, with maybe one fridge of the usual domestic beers.
No way.
7 beers on tap, 700 beers from over 30+ countries. Go right now if you can and sample the holiday beers. Great selection.
The owners, Sam & Marlene, are an interesting pair. Sam is well-knowledged in beer and is considered by some to be a beer nazi. In Gold's article on Stuffed Sandwich, he asked Sam for a Belgian, but instead gave him SD's Green Flash IPA. He's pushy like that, but in a good way.
The food is just food. There for you to add padding before you drink the beer. In fact, you can't have Sam's beer unless you order food. And also, bring your own glass.... SS gives you a paper cup w/ your beer.
I went here for the first time on sat at 1 pm. Didn't leave till about 4:30 pm.

Besides Lucky Baldwin's, Crown City Brewery and Father's Office, this is definitely another LA gem for good beer.

For Beer, also try Naja's Palce, Redondo Beach
The Brewter's place (I forget the name) at the airport Four Points Sheraton
Mc G's in Chatsworth
Pure Luck across from Scoops
The Delirium Cafe in Sierra Madre (Owned by the guy who owns Lucky Baldwin's)
Boneyard Bistro in Sherman Oaks
Among others

Thanks Diana. what do you think of stuffed sandwich?

An amazing beer selection, the sandwiches aren't earth shattering, but pretty good. Were the menu to be as vast as teh beer selection, It's be one of my favorites.

Diana, thanks so much for the list. I went to Pure Luck last night. What a gem. Did a sample of all 10 of their beers for only $10. I loved their Bear Republic Hop Red. so good. had their fries and garlic aioli, tasty. i'm going back to try their jackfruit and plantain tacos.

Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Awesome! I've never heard of Stuffed Sandwich, but I will definitely try and make my way there soon. It would be a better drive for me than a stop at FO.

Lumpia, please report back. i love that place.

For those beer-lovers in OC, there's also Hollingshead Deli, in the City of Orange on Main north of La Veta (few short blocks north of the 22). Right now they have an impressive lineup of imported and domestic holiday beers on tap. Good place for a sandwich and a great draft beer. Hollingsheads also has an amazing selection of bottled beers, particularly strong on Belgians.

Where exactly to be located?
The second location of Father's Office in Culver City is on Helms, next to the Jazz Bakery and HD Buttercup, (across from Beacon).

Drove by Saturday. Looks like there's actually going to be ROOM.

Saw the blueprints a while back. If I remember right, it'll be 3 times bigger than FO1.
(Not trying to sidetrack, but Yardhouse will open in Downtown LA in September 2008. Not my favorite place, but at least another multitap is opening.)
Cheers!

I read that although Father's Office 2 will have a full bar, the owner refuses to carry vodka, because he doesn't like it. He's a gin drinker.

Anybody tried to get take-out from Father's Office? I found out that the new location won't allow under 21 (same as original), which has me stumped.
Is the food continuous service? Any particular time where the wait is normally less? Since the second location is near Surfas and Let's be Frank I want to do a combo food run.

I've done takeout from the original location. It holds up well and they're happy to do it.
They do takeout at the original, but not call-in orders. So you still have to brave the crowd to even place your order.

Thanks both for the info. I don't mind the line, and this maybe the only way I can try out the 'famed' burgers. Not sure if the fries will suffer.

To add to the information about Father's Office 2: I stopped by the original last night for takeout. Got the burger, which my family visiting from out of town loved, and an order of sweet potato fries. The fries were packed in a plastic container and they definitely suffered on the three minute drive back to my apartment. I spoke to the bouncer outside while I was waiting for my takeout and he told me that it's looking like March will be the new target opening date for the new location. He also said that while they'll have a full bar, they'll only be serving classic cocktails.

Any news on this? Seems like the opening should be right around the corner, hopefully? unless there's been more delays.

still in construction, probably another month.
