Best Jelly Doughnut I Ever Ate
I stopped into Trois Pommes on fifth ave and bought a jelly doughnut, which they were making for Chanukah--OH MY GOD. It was so incredible--it wasn't even a typical jelly doughnut, more like two plain small doughnuts with jam in the middle, like a doughnut-jam sandwich. The doughnuts tasted so fresh and delicious (they weren't even hot out of the oven, and were still amazing), with a delicate vanilla frosting, a MILLION times better than Doughnut Plant or any other I've ever had. (My first thought was, why doesn't Doughnut Plant taste like this?!)
The sad thing is, I think they're only making them for Chanukah! If anyone else has had them and liked them also, can you please ask them to keep making them even though Chanukah is over? I'm hoping that if enough of us ask, they'll make them regularly.

Thanks for the tip. Not in Brooklyn, but have you tried the jam bomboloni (donut holes) at Falai Cafe on Lafayette in Manhattan?

Favorite jelly donut ever is Stork's in Whitestone. They have two types- powered sugar and cinnamon.

they are called sufganiyot...read about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sufganiyah
you can find them at several kosher bakeries, and middle eastern food stores in Queens..there was a thread about them also on the kosher board I believe as well as the outer boroughs board. And they are really really easy to make yourself...just get a good recipe.---you put preserves in them, and they are best eaten hot out of the oven...and yes, you can generally only find them in NY around Hannukah, but make them at home anytime you want.
