Former Smalltalk on Bayview
Drove by today and noticed a sign for the new place - Joey Fiasaco's. Apparently opening next week. Strange name, sounds like a Gio's knock off or something. Anybody know anything more?

Supposedly an outpost of McSorley's down the street. If so, I'd venture cheap and not very good.

Oh that's sad. It's such a prime location. I would have loved a good addition to the strip.

The name is 'something Fiasco'............. I think that will probably say it all! ;)

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking, too bad :( But maybe there is hope yet, I notice the place formerly known as Riveria has also closed and something else is in the works!

Interesting! I never went there but my mom went there with a friend and had a HORRIBLE meal with lame service... so it's no wonder... there is plenty of competition on Bayview, such that the people who really don't make an effort, really won't make it......... :)

Max, I have been to McSorley's and it was okay for what it is, a sports bar restaurant. I can only speak for myself, but I am disappointed because we are without kids, and would much prefer to see something with more upscale dining opening. I wish them well, but for us, a family restaurant is not something to get excited about. There is your answer.

Mc Sorley's has its place, but it isn't a place for me. It's very reasonably priced, blah tasting, frozen/canned foods served in a fake roadhouse atmosphere targeted to Leaside families. I assume they get a sports bar drinking crowd later in the evening, but I haven't been there after dinner, so don't know.
I have no reason to expect that their Italian spot will be targeted differently - that's the market they've done well with. They might surprise me, but I'm not holding my breath.
There is already some decent mass market Italian-style food on that strip and I doubt that Joey Fiasco's will have higher culinary aspirations. I don't care much about "upscale"; I do care about food better than I can get from the frozen food counter.
As always, I hope they do well. But I always hope for new places I want to eat at myself. Do you expect that they WILL surprise me?

Kinda what I was thinking too! But maybe there is hope yet....I also noticed that where Riveria once was, some reno work is being done. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Perhaps this is where the new Cluck, Grunt and Low is going?

The North Toronto Post (december issue) has a blurb in its 'Counter culture' section.
".....the ownership group from the poppular sports club McSorley's.... are converting into a casual open-kitchen, Italian restaurant....scheduled to open early december....fun,casual Itallian."
Also in same section: Wolfgang Puck Bistro (January), Petite Four bakery, Sassafraz, Terroni, Nyood, Satori. Few facts - mostly advertorial.

Confirmed Cluck, Grunt and Low IS going to be where Riveria was on Bayview. Saw the signs up today.
