PENINSULA ALERT - Espetus to open in San Mateo!!

Did a board search, and didn't see anyone post this. So the missus, chowbaby and I took a stroller to downtown San Mateo for lunch today. We decided on Everyday Beijing as it'd been awhile since we had their cumin lamb, fish & chive dumplings & house-pulled chow mein (all were delish, as usual). On our walk back home along B St. towards 9th Ave., we walked by what is going to be the 2nd location of Espetus in the Bay Area!! It will be on B St. on the block between Santa Ramen & Everyday Beijing (across from Charlie's Taqueria). No timetable for when they were to open, and we were too stuffed/lazy to ask any of the tradespeople inside.

My better half was probably more excited about this development than I, since she has yet to try the SF location while I've been at least a dozen times for lunch & dinner. From a quick glance at the outside of the building, they won't be open until at least well into Q1 of '08.

Feel free to update this thread as a firmer opening date develops......

  1. Nice to hear... I've been a few times myself and have always liked it. It doesn't get mentioned much, or favorably, on this board though.

    1. I am not a fan of the one in SF. I thought it was like cafeteria style tasting and what not.
There must be a demand for this kind of food, I don't get it.

Is there another Brazilian steakhouse you like?

No and this place resembles nothing I ate in Brazil or South America.

Not even the costumes eh? =)

I personally am not surprised that the meat, meat and more meat churrascaria ethos is not universally embraced in San Francisco.

        3. Drove by the Espetus San Mateo location, and a quick glance told me they'll be opening their doors to the public soon from the looks of it. Hostess stand is up, and it looks like all the tables and lighting are in place in the dining area.

I took my wife to the SF location for lunch a few months back, and her response to it was "eh". Hopefully the San Mateo location starts off alright, as we'll undoubtedly be going there for dinner with various groups of friends interested in having a week's worth of sodium intake in one meal......lol

I haven't been to Brazilian steakhouses in Brazil, but have been to several in Shanghai, China. Espetus beats those on quality, but the places in Shanghai were waaaaayyyyyyy better on price (about 1/3 the cost).
