Golden Gate Bakery Extends its "Vacation."
Golden Gate Bakery was to have returned from its mysterious "vacation" today, but the sign has been modified and November 10 is the new date.
I pass by almost daily, and for the past couple of weeks it's been in the same condition: all items boxed or covered up and cartons of Clorox and other cleaning materials in evidence sitting around as if a major cleanup of is imminent, but the only activity inside has been an older woman and/or man (owners?) inside from time to time doing paperwork of some kind.
It's all something of a mystery, as there is no record of health violations, though the last published inspection report was from June.

Well these folks have been in business so long they can afford to do what they want and turn away business.
What I really hope they are doing is going back to their homeland (whether it be China/Hong Kong or Peru as speculated as to where they are from as one of them spoke fluent Spanish in addition to Toishanese) to find a replacement egg tart chef who can replicate that signature flakey crust/exterior.

Maybe the place is being sold?

We are of one mind. If they extend the vacation then this may indeed may be the case.
The head baker was the youngest brother in the in the family. I have been told that none of the other are bakers. So they may be looking hard for replacement.

Maybe it is time for the SF hounds to develop a new list of custard tart places if indeed Golden Gate is history.
I am sure Chow Fun is up to the task.
I know I will be checking a few in the coming weeks.
From my earlier post I have had the custard pie and if was wonderful. Time for another soon.
