Ltd. Edition Häagen Daz Caramelized Pear & Toasted Pecan Ice Cream

Looks like this is the winner in their latest contest - I had wanted the ginger cashew crunch to win. :-) Has anyone tried the new flavor?

  1. I just bought a pint and it is divine. The nice-sized chunks of pear playing off the pecans... mmmm. The whole time I'm eating it I'm thinking: "pears in ice cream!! why hasn't someone thought of this before??"

and SO much better than the sticky toffee pudding (which was the winner of the last one of these contests they did).

I bought it and I didn't like it. Its too creamy, way too sweet. Can barely taste the fruit, it tastes more like a syurrupy sweet than a fresh fruit sweet.

I posted on another thread about it after finding it at Whole Foods. I don't like it. Both the ice cream and the small (obviously canned) pears have a "tinny" taste to me. Toasted pecans are all but neglible. And I agree with Xericx - not a fresh fruit taste but like the syrup from the canned pears was added to the ice cream mixture before freezing.

I've eaten perhaps the top inch of the pint, and I'm not sure I'm going to eat the rest. I think I'll switch to the English Butter Toffee pint I bought. (And I still wish the Ginger Cashew Crunch had been the winner!)

      2. Argh I can't seem to find it... the website said my Gelson's and Ralph's carry it, but no sighting yet... Guess i'll stick with my Sticky Toffee.

My Ralphs had it. So did Bristol Farms. Both in Westchester.

well given the less than smashing reviews, im not going to run around the city seeking it out, but i'll look wherever i am to see if they carry it. thanks for the heads-up tho!

        2. OMG! I love pears! Thanks for the info.

          1. I just had this...astounding. I totally love it. Although with some of their new novelty flavors I realize some of the appeal is the unusual flavor combinations. This appeal can wear thin after a while. If I still love this in 3 weeks, I will consider it officially amazing.

I still love the sesame coconut brittle and the pomegranate chocolate ones, they are really killer.

            1. re: thedanny

i would like this flavor w/o the pecans... i wish there were more pear flavored or pear based desserts/concoctions/creations
