Epicurious.com is pretty global and has a good recipe saver feature, plus comments by users. Williams-sonoma,com/recipe/index has reliably good recipes.

Generally I'm a big fan of Epicurious and Simply Recipes. I find allrecipes is very bland, as if posters are generally afraid of anything more bold tasting than a dorito.

That Indian recipe site underwent an upgrade yesterday and wasn't available for a while. If you tried it and couldn't get in, you might want to try again, because it really is worthwhile.

There used to be a great Indian recipe site which I haven't looked up for a long time. I don't know if it's still around, but it allowed one to click on the various Indian states and find recipes local to that region. Wonderful.
Don't know much about the current ones. I usually go to books I have by Jaffrey, Sahni, Devi or Merchant.

The site I gave was for restaurant-style Indian food.

i like www.allrecipes.com - recipes are rated, and i always read the comments first. after about the 5th person says 'needs more salt' i take it under advisement ;)

Not necessarily chowhoundy but allrecipes.com has some great recipes with reviews.
I second the site with cooking light receipes. they have a great search function.

It must be me, but I have a LOT of trouble navigating the epicurious.com site. I have several that I refer to, but my favourite is fooddownunder.com
I also use the cooks.com amongst others.

I second www.recipezaar.com!
The seach capabilities are great - you can keep narrowing further and further down until you find exactly what you want.
The comments and ratings are also very helpful and give good tips for what works and what doesn't.
The best part is that these are recipes by real people so they tend to work, not like some site where only professionally trained chefs can understand or anticipate what the problems might be.

I just Google whatever recipe I am looking for. It will find whatever is out there from lots of different sites, many already mentioned. I like it, because it invariably finds some food loving website I have not discovered yet!

If I'm searching very broadly for a recipe, I use http://www.foodieview.com/. It's a specialized recipe search engine that searches a whole bunch of sites--magazines (Cooking Light, Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine Magazine, Saveur, Southern Living, Sunset Magazine and more), celebrity chef sites (Jacques Pepin, Martha Stewart, Paul Prudhomme, and others) plus collections like the Food Network, Recipezaar, AllRecipes, Epicurious, Splendid Table, and a lot of others. They make a search engine widget you can add on to Firefox (and I believe other browsers and toolbars), or you can go to their site to search.
I do like RecipeZaar, and I've found some outstanding recipes there. I'll often search there if I want a recipe that comes with recommendations and feedback from people who've tried it.

Epicurious is probably still my favorite, though Lord knows I've obtained some excellent recipes right here on Chowhound...FinerKitchens.com is also pretty awesome, though the format is more chatty & friendly. Cooking Light is pretty good, too. Those are my favorite 4 websites right now.

Great recommendation sequins! This is a great example of a site I would never intuitively look at for recipes. I also like it because it lists recipes by the chefs as well. I use the Food Network site often the same way since I know what chefs have an affinity for the same flavors that I do.

I realize this is a pay site but I recently started paying for www.cooksillustrated.com and it is totally worth it. They have such a good range of well tested recipes especially if you are trying to make something you have never made before.
