Matteo's--anyone been since Dickman took over?
The query about game had me looking up that LA times article, and finally read it, about Don Dickman (formerly Rocca) taking over the kitchen at Matteo's. That earlier question had me and the SO racking our brains for "where did we have that amazing pasta with wild boar ragu?" And I finally realized Rocca, but now Don is at Matteo's, and reading the article, come to find out he really does use a lot of wild game. He's also serving a few things that sound similar to Mozza (not ripping them off, just equally inspired by that sort of rustic Italian cuisine) like chicken liver bruschetta and guanical (sp?).
So... has anyone been yet? What's the word? What's great? How's the staff? It sounds like it was going to be a challenge for Don, to get the regulars on board with his menu, and attract newbies. Now I really want to go, maybe next week after the holiday hooplah dies down, but has anyone else tried yet? I was such a fan of Rocca.

No, but I miss Rocca like crazy, I loved that place...let us know when you go how it is

Loved Rocca, but, sad to say, Matteo's is a cheerless old place. And it seems that the food doesn't have the same spark it did at Rocca. It's sort of an unexciting copy of what Rocca did so weell. Perhaps Don wasn't there the night we went, but I don't think I'm going back because the vibe is kind of like a way station to hell.
