Broguiere's Nog Sightings?
It's that time of year again. It's Broguiere's Eggnog Time again, that is. I'm spoiled, it's the only nog I'll drink, and it's just not Xmas-New Years without a bottle or three in the fridge. But every year, I have trouble scoring it. Haven't found a bottle yet. If you hacve seen B's nog somewhere this season, perhaps you could post that info here for all nog fans to benefit from.
I am in the Glendale area. The only place I've found in the last few years that carries it here is the Ralph's on north Central, at Stocker. Been there twice so far, and they're always sold out. Oddly, the other Ralph's in town don't carry it, and apparently heither does the Whole Foods on Glendale, even tho they carry other B's products. According to the blog below, there may be places in the Atwater-Los Feliz area. Any info is appreciated. The pic below has me salivating.

Gelson's usually carry it, there's one in Pasadena. I've also spotted it at Stater Brothers stores, if there's one that is more convienent than the Gelson's. I am slurping one as I write this, albiet adulterated with a fine medium bodied rum and a couple of grindings of fresh nutmeg. Cheers. It is the best, and the only one I spend the calories on.

Bristol Farms carries it every year...very rich and delicious!

Gelsons in Marina del Rey has it reliably every year, including this year. I'd bet that is true for all Gelsons stores. Wife loves it.

I bought a jar at Von's in Pasadena on Allen.

The first time I scored Brog's nog, based on Huell Houser's show segment, I made the long trip out to the dairy (about three years ago, IIRC). It was good to do that, once, but not again. I don't drive; I get around all over by bus, but besides a long trip to Montebello, it was a boring hour's hike each way from the nearest bus stop. I'll try my local Ralph's again, and if not there, try Gelson's in Pasadena.

Another benefit of going directly to the dairy is that it costs nearly half the price of going to Gelson's... $2.99 a bottle if I recall correctly. However I agree that the discount is definitely not worth the cost or effort of taking the bus to Montebello!

Here's another choice for you -- How's market in San Marino (San Gabriel Blvd. and Huntington Dr.) carries it and I bought my first bottle yesterday. Wonderful stuff without the cloying sweetness of some of the other brands.

Andrew -
I checked with the Gelson's in Silverlake on Griffith Park and Hyperion -- they have it.....

OK thanks - Gelson's seems to be the dependable source.

Professor: by chance do you know if Whole Foods in the Tustin District or Vons on Bristol/MacArthur carry it, please? Thanks! (and anyone else in the central OC/W. Irvine-W. Tustin area)

The Vons in Chevoit Hills and the Pavillion's in Culver City [both owned by Safeway] have the Quart Bottle of the nog. The Vons however has a better selecton of their milk and other things than the Pavillions

Just a note on Whole Foods. I once asked why they didn't carry the egg nog when they have other Broguiere's products, and it's because the egg nog does not meet their dairy department's requirements for being organic. Make of that what you will, but that's why you won't see Broguiere's egg nog at any Whole Foods.

BIZZARE!!! We buy Broguiere's milk there all the time (And it's cheaper than safeway too!) and that's not organic either!!

I actually spotted it at the Whole Foods at 3rd and Fairfax on Thursday, unless I was hallucinating. Also, Whole Foods does carry a bit of non-organic stuff including dairy (I've seen some non-organic altadena milk and cream there, for example)

I've got to chime in on this... you bring up an interesting point. While rich and delicious, there is something unnaturally yellow and gooey about the stuff which I push out of my mind when I'm drinking it (of course when you mix in a little rum or whiskey, it dilutes the nog's texture and flavor into something more palatable to me... but weirdly enough I still like it, though I can't explain why).
Having said that, I still think Whole Foods' attituide however is pretty rediculous... they like to put out the image that they're an organic paradise while simultaneously stocking their produce department with only about 30% organics... and then they charge organic prices for their non-organic fruits.
Whatever!

I just saw it at Bristol Farms in Pasadena off the 110 at Fair Oaks; however, I live in Northern California and I couldn't buy a bottle to take with me on the plane. Does anyone know if it is sold in the north?

Dear Andy;
I just saw Huell's program on Brog's Dairy and boy howdy! Am I thirstin' to try that nog! (and their choc milk, too, I might add). Do you or anybody reading this forum MIGHT know by chance if either Vons on S. Bristol, S.A. or Henry's on Harbor in Costa Mesa carry this, rather'n my having to drive up the 5 Fwy? Thanks in advance!
O, BTW: do you know a "Jack" Gore, Jr? He works with me in the Post Office here in Santa Ana and boy we love talking about our fave foods....

If you do plan on going out the dairy, call ahead. I called early this afternoon and they were out of both egg nog and chocolate milk for today. Since we're in West LA, I am really glad we checked first.

Haven't been to Von's lately, but I've seen the eggnog at two Pasadena Ralphs stores (North Lake and West Colorado) and Gelson's. It's actually becoming more widely available, a trend I appreciate.

I bought two bottles at the Vons on Allen in Pasadena today (they had about a dozen left), and I bought two bottles at the Hows on Huntington last week! This has been a very noggy season so far, may it continue into the New Year, knock on wood.

Yes, I also saw it at that How's and the Pavillions on Lake/California.

Okay, this may be late notice, but I have to reply. I agree that Broguiere's egg nog is the best nog ever (although Alta Dena dairy comes pretty close). I am in Glendora (if you don't know that's about 30 miles East of Los Angeles). I don't know of many specific stores that carry it over others, that seems to work the same out in our neighborhood. I think it's up to each store to decide if they want to sell it. Stater Bros. and Vons out here sell it, but not all locations sell it.
I have two suggestions if you really want to find somewhere that sells Broguiere products, and if you don't mind driving. First is to call Broguiere Dairy and find out where they sell it, they will know what stores bought their products. Second, you can go to Kellogg Ranch, in Pomona, near Cal Poly Pomona. The ranch is owned and run by Cal Poly; a lot of their produce is grown by Cal Poly on the same property, and they sell every Broguiere's product made (all regular milk and chocolate milk all year, egg nog around the holidays, from Thanksgiving through Christmas). Kellogg Ranch's website is http://www.csupomona.edu/~farmstore/, from this site you can get directions. I suppose, I should mention a third possibility: Whole Foods Market. There is a Whole Foods in Glendale, and Pasadena. I have shopped at both, and while I have never been to the one in Glendale around the holidays, I have been to the one in Pasadena around Thanksgiving, and they sell Broguiere's egg nog every year during the holidays. Here's the website that has the addresses of southern California Whole Food's: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/store...
I hope this helps you next year find the best egg nog ever made!
