What's My Craving?

Chipped Beef

I want to make creamed chipped beef. Anyone know where you can buy chipped beef in the NYC area?

  1. I haven't looked for it lately, but in most majopr supermarkets you milght look in the section that has Vienna sausages iln cans, etc -- I used to get the dried beef for SOS in small, 6 oz glass jars.

    1. If they dont' have it in the jars you can get it in many deli sections where they have the prepackaged turkey and other cold cuts.

      1. I grew up on chipped beef on toast (SOS) in the Midwest. My Mom bought it in those glass jars and put it in a homemade white sauce. Ever since I have been in NYC I have never seen it. Stouffer's has frozen creamed chipped beef, although I have never tried it.

Stouffer's frozen creamed chipped beef isn't bad at all. Better than the Esskay version you can find in some dairy breakfast sections of the grocery store.

        2. You can buy packages of Stouffers pre-made, Shoprite, Pathmark.

If you want air dried beef, I have only found it at Pathmark. Ask for Carson's Air Dried beef. It is located in the cheese/milk area's of the store.

          good luck.
