Harry's Roadhouse - Santa Fe

We're home from several days in Santa Fe...several days of good eating!

First on the list to hit was Harry's Roadhouse as we arrived the last night of the Wine and Chile festival and wanted to avoid crowds at the 'near the plaza' restaurants.

Harry's is located out on the old Las Vegas Highway but not far from town at all. We pulled into the parking lot saw the multitude of cars and people standing on the porch and prepared for a bit of a wait...but we're on vacation so what's the hurry anyhow we thought...

Put our names in and ducked into the bar...saw bar seating was available and the bar seemed ot be non-smoking(is all of santa fe non-smoking? never seemed to be an issue) so we sat down.

Ordered a margarita which arrived in a shaker with a generously salted glass. Must love a city where margaritas come on the rocks unless otherwise indicated! Tart, sweet, strong, refreshing...everything a decent margarita should be...

We went ahead and ordered food as we were comfortable in our spot(we took our names off the list just as they were getting ready to call us...less than a 15 minute wait). The soup was an acorn squash/apple soup so I ordered that and husband had the small veggie chop salad. We ordered a green chile cheeseburger to split.

The soup was rich and creamy. Strong squash flavor, tart undertones and just a hint of something hot. very good. Husbands veggie chop was delicious! beans, corn, tomatoes, red bell pepper, mango, other veggies, nicely diced and tossed with an avocado dressing. must make this at home.

The burger arrived - cooked a perfect medium rare. Juicy and full of flavor. Not enough green chile though! Accompanied by fresh cut steak fries that were very good - hot, crisp on the outside, fluffy in the middle.

We'd read about the pies here and went ahead and ordered a piece of strawberry-rhubarb pie(husband was very disappointed they were out of sweet potato pecan pie and sadly we didn't make it back for him to try a piece). This was GOOD pie! Strong rhubarb flavor, sweet strawberries...and wonderful crust...

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here...thanks to those who suggested this our first night.

Yeah, that's my favorite, except maybe when they have fresh blueberry pie...

We tried the sweet potato-pecan TOD. I thought it was just OK, an odd combo -- but my wife loved it.

Glad you liked it, and thanx for the report!

Sweet potato-pecan pie "an odd combo?" I bet Paul Prudhome would be surprised to hear that!

    2. If you're in the mood for a cold dessert, I have fantasies about their ice cream sandwiches. Made from thin fudgey brownies and Haagen Dazs ice cream (vanilla or peanut butter), they measure about 4"x4"x2" - enough sugar to keep me bouncing off the walls. Yum.
