Tristate Region

Hudson and Columbia County

I will be staying outside of Hudson for a long weekend next month. Any recommendations for dinner, based on recent experience, would be much appreciated. Budget and ambience are not an issue; good food is the sole criterion

  1. In Hudson, Swoon and Ca' Mea right across from each other on lower Warren St.

    1. Swoon Kitchenbar has a very good kitchen, indeed. I ate there two weeks ago with my visiting friend who is a chef. We had a very good meal and I would recommend.

Seasonal and well, excellent and yummy. Had a gnocchi appetizer w/ fresh corn. My friend had an oxtail terrine which she loved; I found kinda funky. But you gotta admire the kitchen's reach and confidence. We both had fantastic sauteed fish w/ chanterelle mushrooms over perfectly brunoised (when do you see that??) turnips and turnip greens in a mushroom broth. Wine list is vast and suggested excellent though pricey french chardonnay w/ our meal which went well.
Desserts were a treat -- they come as a trio -- pastry, ice cream and sauce. My friend had corn fritters, a small scoop of homemade ice cream and fruit sauce. I had a little cake-type item, ice cream and fruit sauce. Armagnac, and we were content. Came to a little over $200/2 people. I would return and recommend. Make a reservation.

      1. I also really like Mexican Radio and go there frequently. Very respectable Mexican dishes (and margaritas!) if that's what you're in the mood for. We go there regularly because food is very good.
Most (all?) Hudson restaurants are on Warren Street, the main drag, from 8th St. down to 2nd Street (towards the Hudson River)
        Don't go to Wunderbar between 7th & 8th. Mediocre semi-German food.
And please report back on your experiences!

If this mexican radio is anything like its sister location in Manhattan, I second this recommendation!
