Pumpernickel Raisin Bread
I moved to California from NYC 8 years ago and have never found anyone who bakes pumpernickel raisin bread locally. Does anyone know who sells loaves over the internet so I can order some to be shipped to me??

Easy one (though expensive): Zingerman's. Use link below (I've dug down to their pumpernickel page for you). Oops, no raisins, though (email 'em at tmorell@zingermans.com and ask if they ever make it that way)
If you want to try more than just pumpernickel, go for their "bread of the month club".

Sorry, but I have to be the "Wisenheimer" and "Know-it-all" again. Original "PUMPERNICKEL", as it is made in Germany, never does have raisins or other ingredients, except whole grain, and other baking supplements such as molasses and other. Besides the molasses used is actual Zuckerruebensyrup ( Sugar beets syrup). Also, no German bakery does make Pumpernickel anymore on their premises, as it is manufactured solely in bread baking plants in Germany. One of the best known, and maybe one of the best is "MESTEMACHER" another is "Heinrich Leupoldt of Weissenstadt. These breads are often available here in the states at better supermarkets, but found often in natural food stores. So, whoever is selling you Raisin Pumpernickel, is selling you a raisin bread, their style, and are calling it "Pumpernickel" (there is no monopoli on the name)

Pumpernickel with raisins is often referred to as "Russian pumpernickel." So its lack of German provenance is pretty clear.

Orwasher's Bakery makes THE best raisin pumpernickel I've ever had. Each time I buy a loaf, it's gone by the end of the day. I don't know if they mail-order, but it doesn't hurt to give them a call.
