There is an Italian deli in Vienna that has great pepperoni roll. You buy it uncooked and bake it for an hour or so. The bread in the inside stays real soft and silky and the outside gets nice and crisp. Favorite from childhood.

One of the first things I learned how to make as a child. I was raised in the South. I put pepperoni balls in the same category as PB&Js, grilled cheese sammiches and mac and cheese. Those are TRULY comfort foods!

Your post reminds me of a true West Virginia delicacy called pepperoni rolls. These rolls are made of homemade dough or refrigerator cresent dough with pepperoni and cheese inside. These rolls are usually found in central WV (I haven't seen them anywhere in the DC area). There are a few places I think where you can order them online from (in Clarksburg and Morgantown, WV). Served warm or cold, these rolls are a real treat.
