80th Birthday Lunch in Southern Rhode Island

My wife is in the throes of planning a lunch for her mom's 80th in early May.

She's looking for a place in southern RI that can accomodate 10-15 middle-aged to elderly family/friends in a private, or at least quiet, setting where the food is consistently well prepared, the menu is interesting, albeit not necessarily cutting edge, and the room and location are, in some way, special.

Your consideration is greatly appreciated.

  1. The Shelter Harbor Inn in Westerly is lovely any time of the year, they do a great job! Easy to find, little if any stairs. Wonderful food.

The Larchwood Inn in Wakefield is a favorite place for that generation. I haven't been there in quite a while, maybe someone has been recently??

I second the Shelter Harbor Inn nomination. We had a 75th birthday party there last summer and it was just right for the occasion.

Jim Dey's Shelter Harbor Inn and Diann Browning's Larchwood Inn are both excellent for such occasions.
If you choose the Larchwood, you should consider reserving the Buttery Room - it is just the right size and gives you great privacy.
