Get away restaurants near Great Barrington & Sheffield

We are getting away from NYC for the weekend and looking for suggestions for dinner (also lunches) in and around Great Barrington and Sheffield. Prefer something non-meat intensive (one of us is a fishetarian), quiet and relaxing - but not looking for stodgey or jacket-required type atmosphere.

Any recomendations?

Thanks

  1. hello!

well, sheffield is a tiny, tiny town...i think there is only 2 restaurants! one is a pizza place that doesnt really count, but then there is stagecoach hill inn. they changed owners & hours ( i think just weekends ) so im not sure how things are right now. i have been there many times over the years and have always enjoyed myself.

BUT- i do have the best place for you to go....its in egremont, right next to great barrington, its called john andrews and its absolutely fabulous. not stuffy at all, cozy setting, great service, and the food is to die for. totally NOT just meat & fish either...awesome pasta dishes too. cannot recommend enough or say enough good things about the place...

    enjoy and report back!

      Andrew-
Niccole told us about John Andrews about a month ago here at Chowhounds.
We tried the place and she was 100% correct.
This is one of the best restaurants we've ever been to.
We've eaten there twice since she clued us in on the place and we're there again this Friday night.
      Outstanding food and great service!
      Enjoy!

    2. I second Jon Andrews-- it's one of our absolute favorites!

Other good choices: Castle St. in GB has a bar with music on the weekends. I prefer the bar menu to the restaurant menu and there are several veg. choices.
Pearl's is more upscale but they have fish. There is an excellent Japanese restaurant-- Bizen-- really really good and not just shushi but lots of fish.
I just blanked on the pizza place on Main st. (Rt 23) which is very veg friendly.
