Fried Seafood on the Connecticut Coast
Will be in New Haven this weekend, but won't have time to make it up to the Clambox or Woodman's in Mass. Are there any good places to get decent fried clams along the coast east of New Haven? I've seen some recommend Fish Tale in Madison and Lenny's in Branford.

I would also suggest the Glenwood Drive In on Whitney Ave in Hamden Very Good

I may be in the minority, but I don't understand why everyone loves the fish tale in madison/westbrook. Decent at best. It's always filthy when I'm in there. Sitting on top of other people's fried fish/clam platters isn't exciting and neither are their prices.
Lenny's is great in Branford as is Flanders in east Lyme

Dino's in North Haven...the combo can't be beat...even the cole slaw is good.

I find that Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale in Madison/Clinton is a bit overrated, but it's extremely popular. I prefer Bill's Seafood in Westbrook, however, I have never had their fried clams.

I would undoubtedly recommend Bill's Seafood in Westbrook as well. Quality(&consistency) of their fried seafood seems above others mentioned on this post(in my humble opinion of course).
I usually prefer to go during "good weather" to sit outside at the tables on their deck by the water(stale beer smell permeates the inside-Sorry!). However the food is worth trying at any time.
I recommend the fried seafood platter for two and the jumbo lobster roll(wash it down with some un-stale beer of course!).Enjoy!!!

I have a summer place in Westbrook. Both Bill's and Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale are about 5 minutes from my cottage. We go to Bill's once a summer as a tradition, but never for the food. The fried seafood there, in my opinion, is absolutely hideous -- thick breading and never cooked enough because they are trying to churn the orders out to satisfy the huge crowds. Their chowder is decent, though. Lenny & Joe's, on the other hand, is literally the ONLY place I'll eat fried seafood. The batter is thin and crispy and all seafood is fried to a golden brown despite their equally huge crowds. Westbrook Lobster, just up the road, is decent but I like their non-fried seafood menu items better. I've also heard very good things about the Flanders Fish House but have never been there. Hope this helps!
