Need advice on waits in line at Sally's and Pepe's in New Haven

We planning on doing the Wooster street "double" on Saturday, hitting Pepe's when it opens at 11:30 and Sally's for dinner at 5. We have experienced the long lines at both places. What I wanted to know was whether there are lines forming before the places open? and if so, how much before opening do we need to get there to be sure we are seated when they open.

Thanks.

  1. You shouldn't have any trouble getting into Pepe's for lunch when it opens. Arrive 15 minutes ahead to be safe. Depending on the weather, (if it is good, the line will form earlier), plan on getting to Sally's at 4:00-4:15. But remember, Sally's takes reservations for preferred customers, so there is really no way of knowing how many (if any) will show up at 4:55 and spoil your plan, even if you are toward the front of the line.

you might want to check and see if there are any special events at yale university over the weekend, which can lengthen the wait time considerably at all hours

then you could try Modern Pizza, which IMO is just as good at the pizzerias on Wooster St.

I second Modern. The meatball za is my death row meal.

That is always our backup plan in case a line is too long. Hasn't happened yet though.
