I have had fantastig burgers at Paragon on Thayer Street, and terrible burgers there as well.
They are nice and big, served rare/medium rare as asked, grilled nice and dark on the outside... a meat texture I like. A nice semi soft bun, and very fresh toppings, although I prefer no toppings. However, another visit it tasted like the whole thing was frozen.

I would recommend the Abbey near the intersection of Admiral and River. Something of a PC bar, but the burgers more than compensate for that. Also has a better than average beer selection.

The Ivy Tavern on Hope Street makes a delicious burger. They butter and spice the bun before grilling it slightly,yum! Burger is huge, never overcooked, very very good. Fries are just so-so, however.
