Mad House Cafe - Pawtucket RI
Based upon the review in the Providence Journal, and prior excellent experiences at the owners other restaurant (Crazy Burger in Narragansett) I stopped in last night after work.
We split an appetizer of sweet potato-risotto fritters, w/an onion-gorgonzola dipping sauce. I had a 'burger' of grilled tempeh, black rice, sweet potato, roasted sunflower seeds w/rosemary-pumpkin seed pesto. Accompanied by bean salad and sweet potato french fries. My friend had a real beef burger that had carmelized onions in the meat, and a 'burst' of gorgonzola inside, w/slaw & sweet potato fries on the side. We were both more than happy - everything was excellent. Service was perfect - not just attentive & efficient, but you got the feeling these young girls really cared about this new restaurant.
Only odd thing (and it's not bad, just odd to me) I thought the wines by the glass were pretty pricey for a basically casual place. For both red & white, a couple of offerings at $7/glass, but about 2/3 of the selections were $10/glass. They were nice wines properly priced (from what I could see) I just thought the choices were a bit high end for the type of restaurant it is. I'm not a beer drinker, but the beer list looked really interesting. But that's not even a speedbump, I'm already planning my next trip back.

Thanks for the review! I don't know how I missed it the last couple of days... It's rare to see anyplace Pawtucket discussed here on Chowhound. I'm planning to head over there myself at some point...

We went last night. Wonderful, innovative food. The service was good natured, but inept; we waited a long time for our drinks and meals; I was brought the wrong wine; the slaw that was supposed to accompany our meals, which 'we only bring if you ask for it now' wasn't brought until we asked again. But eventually, the right wine was delivered and we weren't charged for it. The portions are large, including the generous serving of wine, and prices are low. We'll be going back.
