Ok..obviously I'm now one of the few hounds that have been there. Speaking of...now knowing the difference between a foodie and a hound I have now changed my "handle" and I apologize for any insult to my fellow hounds.
I had the pleasure of attending a dinner party there a few weeks ago. My companion and I pulled up and thought....this is the smallest restaurant we have ever seen! Don't let the outside fool you, this converted bungalow felt intimate without sitting on top of one another. We were a party of 12 and took up what was once the living room. There was additional seating for 8 in what was once the bedroom. The place was nicely decorated and as per the article mentioned above, the decorations come down at the end of the night so that the restaurant returns to it's daytime persona The Blue House Cafe.
The menu looked great but we were being served family style as set up by our host with the chef/owner. We had a full sized timballo which was amazing. The calamari which they are becoming famous for and the dessert their own turtle cake. I am dying to try out the rest of the menu and will be back soon. The real clincher as well was the fact that they are a BYOB restaurant. This was a real homey neighborhood place and the chef even found time to visit all of the tables in the dining room. A nice personal touch!
We did decide to go back the following week and try the daytime alter ego for brunch and weren't dissapointed. The server was the same girl we had for dinner and the chef/owner of Francisco's was filling in for the chef/owner of the Blue House ( they apparently share staff) and we received the same outstanding service and food! The brunch was fantastic! I had the crab/avocado benedict and she had the Greek omelet. Both tasted extremely fresh and the seasoned home fries were to die for. It was really neat to see how the place is redecorated for both restaurants.
Another nice part is that it isn't in the downtown area so parking is ample and it's conveniently located off the turnpike. A nice straight shot up the highway from Kennebunk.
This is a very unique experience that I recommend to all my fellow hounds. Don't miss out!
