Berkshires suggestions

We're planning to have dinner at Old Inn on the Green and John Andrews on an upcoming weekend getaway, but we'd love suggestions for other dinners or lunch.

  1. you picked 2 AWESOME places.

for lunch i would try baba louies ( pizza ) its on main street in gt. barrington and very, very tasty. not your typical pizza joint.

i have 2 other rec's but it depends on what your looking for. pearls in gt. barrington i love, the atmosphere is hip & sleek like you are in the city. on the other hand, the egremont inn is very good too but "country" and very, very cozy. depends on what your after...

enjoy and dont forget to report back!

    1. re: niccole

We stopped there last year. We enjoyed the pizza but it was not as great as our New Haven favorites.
Good beer selection. There are several other interesting places nearby.

    2. You have picked two of our favorite restaurants in the Berkshires. I also recommend Bistro Zinc in Lenox and Suisse Hutte in Hinsdale, NY (Catamount ski area immediately across the Mass, border).

      1. re: John Paone

Not to be nit-picky, but it's Swiss Hutte in Hillsdale, not Suisse Hutte in Hinsdale :) I do love the food there, but I'm not a big fan of the atmosphere at all. It's pretty cozy, but kinda cheesy-cozy to me.

        1. re: niccole

Mea culpa. You are correct...Hillsdale. Just returned from another trip there and dinner was excellent in all respects. Also, great french toast at breakfast. I do not agree with your comment "kinda cheesy-cozy" ;). Cheap linens, fake flowers, gaudy light fixtures, etc., all which are absent, would be cheesy IMHO.

        2. re: John Paone

Second the Bistro Zinc recommendation. For a nice lunch or dinner (not cheap, though). I still remember those steamed garlic mussels . . . (and even though I make great ones!)

        3. Great picks.
For lunch I would recommend Dish in Lenox.

          1. John Andrews, where we ate this past Friday,is fabulous
but I'm sure you know that already.
We ate at The Wake Robin Inn Saturday night and caught the Wanda Houston Cabaret Show at 8:00PM ish as well.
            The food was outstanding.
We had a Guiness Ale Slow-roasted steak that was out of this world.
The steak was seasoned and settled in the Ale for days then slow-roasted for dinner and the show that night.
Vegetarian Lasagna was fresh-made and won raves among several of the guests.
The food was reasonably priced and with drinks, and a $20.00 coverage charge for a 2-hr. Cabaret show ran about $150/couple.

            1. Strongly consider Aubergine.

              Have fun

              1. re: tagine

I checked via your web site reference and it looks as if Aubergine is closed for good as of July '06

              2. I like to make a meal of the appetizers (and the custard filled fillo) at Agean Breeze in Great Barrington; although it's pricey, and the entrees aren't all that hot.

You can't beat the weekend Indian brunch buffet at the Bombay Grill in Lee.

You could take a walk on the wild side and visit the East Side Cafe in Pittsfield, which is a neighborhood bar which has awesome pizza.

There is a fun Columbian diner in Pittsfield called La Fogatta. Columbian food is meat, beans and rice without a lot of seasoning, but the owners are super people, and the Tostones are not to be missed.

                1. great barringron brewery for beer and food

                  1. We ate at Che Nous' in Lee,Ma. 10/6th.
                    The food was outstanding!!!!!
I had Short Ribs that melted in your mouth;the best I've ever had.
Thank God we were able to eat some of their great homemade desserts as well!
                    Catnip

                    1. catnip! i hope you get this...
