mississauga korean bbq suggestions?
i've been searching the web (and this message board) and have only been able to find one korean bbq restaurant (seoul kal-bi) recommendation in mississauga. i was wondering if anyone has any experiences of others because it gets tedious always having to go to markham for the KBBQ cravings :-p
thanks!

I have been to Doori Korean BBQ Restaurant (1177 Central Pkwy WEST, south of Burnhamthorpe, (905) 896-7999).
The prices were pretty high (compared to, say, all-you-can-eat Korean Grill House downtown). They do serve the meat with various lettuces for you to wrap the meat in (the way they do in Korea I'm told). I also remember enjoying a tasty seafood pancake.

how much does it cost for korean bbq at doori? besides meat, do they offer any seafood? salmon? squid?
thanks!

I'm afraid it's been two years since I went there. I think the kalbi was $25 or so for an order. You'll have to stop by and look at the menu or call them.

then that means its a la carte ... unlike the unlimited pay-one-price, all you can eat.

Doori is more expensive but I found the bbq tastier than KGH's.

not sure of the name but a relative told me about a korean bbq place across the street from Square One - I think it's on burnhamthorpe (can't see it from the street) and it's apparently packed, full of patrons from the neighbouring korea bank (have not been there myself)
another is a sushi place called Sushi Tei in mississauga, on mavis rd and something - I can't recall the address but is in a raised strip plaza that is full of chinese places - sushi tei is a korean owned sushi place that also has a korean menu - i've tried the sushi and the food/service was great. can't imagine the korean food being bad

Sushi Tei is on Creditview and Burnhamthorpe. In the plaza w/the Price Chopper. They've recently moved to a bigger space in the plaza and is still equally as good in my opinion. Unfortunatly, they do not have Korean BBQ there.

unfortunately, sushi tei doesn't have korean bbq now (as AwwShucks posted).. i went by there today. the sashimi was nice and fresh!
i think the square one place is seoul kal-bi. i may give that place a try next week.. it's too bad i can't find any info on it on the web. i'd like to know how much it costs and what items they serve for the bbq.
thanks for the suggestions!

There's actually a Korean Barbecue place behind the Novotel Hotel on Hurontario and Burnhamthorpe Rd W. It's just down the road from Guess Club (I think that's what it was called). There's a big open air parking lot next to it.

Below is a review that I posted awhile ago. I think it's the place you are looking for. It's really cheap and really good.
Just wanted to let everyone in on a great Korean restaurant in Mississauga. Its called Seoul Kal-Bi. I was introduced to it by my bf who always goes there with a friend who use to live in Korea.
We had an authentic dish called Stonebowl. It was a big stone bowl filled with lots of rice, vegetables, beef and an egg. They also provide a hot sauce for you to add. I really enjoyed it. Even though we only ordered the Stonebowl we were also given a delicious spicy tofu soup, miso soup, a variety of wonderful fresh vegetable appetizers and a fabulous napa cabbage dish.
All of this came up to $34 for two people plus tip!
In addition to the great food, the atmosphere and service was equally wonderful. Theres a great indoor waterfall/pond that provides a calming sense.
The restaurant also offers Japanese fare and Korean BBQ which I plan to go back and try. If your interested its located in the Hurontario/Burnhamthorpe area. The address is 265 Enfiled Place 905-615-9065.
Enjoy

I definitely have to second this recommendation. We have been to Seoul Kal-Bi twice in the last couple of weeks and it's fantastic. I didn't have BBQ there, but everything we had was very good. The highlight for me was the fresh kimchi. I've never had anything like it. It's crunchy, sweet, a little spicy...YUM! Totally different from regular kimchi, but wonderful. The spicy tofu soup they serve as an appetizer is also wonderful. I'd be happy to have the tofu soup and the kimchi as my whole meal :-) My husband had the sashimi bento box and said it was the freshest and nicest he's had in a long time (he eats sashimi a LOT). The uni sashimi was also extremely fresh and it can be hit or miss depending on the restaurant. I'd say we ended up eating about 2/3 of our food because we just couldn't stuff any more in. If we hadn't had the uni (which is pricey at all restaurants), lunch for 2 would have been a little over $20.

Considering how easy Korean barbecue is to make, and how much guests enjoy it, I'd recommend doing it yourself. Go to PAT Grocery (on Dundas between Cawthra and Hurontario), buy a pack of premarinated kalbi or bulgogi (or freshly sliced kalbi or bulgogi and separate marinade), a tin of vegetables (for panchan), kimchee, green or red leaf lettuce, and jap chae (if they have it), then make some rice and fire up the grill. The kalbi slices take about six minutes to cook (you'll want them well done), bulgogi even less. Trust me, your guests will love it.

There's a Korean BBQ restaurant very close to H&H Chinese grocery store in Mississauga, just off Burnhamthorpe at Central Parkway. Central parkway loops around, so make sure you go to the end that crosses Burnhamthorpe just East of Mississauga Road. There are many Asian restaurants in the same plaza. I'm afraid I'm not sure of the name of the Korean BBQ place, but we've been there and it's very good.
If you're coming from East Mississauga, come along Burhamthorpe (pass Mavis Road) and turn left (South) on Central parkway...the plaza is on your left after the Tim Horton's plaza. Go in the 3rd entrance. If you're coming from Oakville/West Mississauga, go along Burnhamthorpe (pass Mississauga Road and Credit Woodlands) and turn right onto Central Parkway.

There's also Miga on Dundas, just west of Erin MIlls Pkwy. It's an attempt at upscale by the founders of the original Doori on Central Pkwy. Agree that a passable DIY KBBQ can be built from parts available at PAT on Dundas--nice shop with more depth than first meets the eye.

There are a few Korean BBQ places on Dundas E. North side. Two lights east of Hurontario. Sorry, don't know the address. But it is a plaza and there are tons of Korean Restaurants in there. I'm Korean and I eat there all the time. It's good.
