Fashioning your own spiced rum is so easy that there is really no reason to buy the artificially flavored slosh you find at the store. Just combine some high-quality gold rum with spices, and after a couple of days, you’ve concocted your own spirit!

- 1 750 ml bottle gold rum
- 1 (3-inch) piece vanilla bean
- 1 (1-inch) piece cinnamon stick
- 1 point star anise
- 2 cloves
- 1 piece allspice
- 1 (1-by-1/2-inch) piece orange zest
- 1Add all the spices to a 750 ml bottle of golden rum, close, and let steep 24 hours. Use in your favorite rum-based cocktails.
