We returned to Florida and headed to our favorite Greek restaurant, Zorba’s in Bonita Springs, to find they had done an extensive renovation. The place looks great with new columns, modern blackened ceiling, and contemporary lighting. They have also brought in a new, cutting edge chef who has kept many of their standards but also created some contemporary Greek dishes.
Zorba’s has always had a good taramosalata, Greek salad, and avgolemono soup. I love their grilled octopus, which is very tender without the rubbery texture that you so often find. Their version of a seafood stew, Orzo Me Thalasinam, is overflowing with a variety of perfectly cooked shellfish and seafood in a spicy ouzo tomato broth. Delicious! Other interesting new dishes on the menu are short ribs, grilled salmon with lobster risotto, strip steak saganaki, and an interesting cod dish called bakaliaros skordalia.
This is a family owned restaurant with a warm atmosphere and friendly, attentive service. Food and wine prices are moderate. They have entertainment on weekends, including belly dancing, creating a fun atmosphere. Zorba’s has been around for a number of years, but this old dog has learned some new tricks.
