In NY last weekend for an eating spree. Looking for great Moroccan we read up on Chowhound and ended up at Zitoune in the meatpacking district. Had 9:30 reservations but weren't sat 'til 11:00. Birouat appetizer were 4 small triangles that must have been picked up at the local grocery freezer section. Flavorless and not worth the $9 price. When we asked our waitress about one of the tagines and how to describe it her response was, "whatever you like". What? Describe the food you waitress/trying to be a model! The food that came next I don't even call Moroccan. A fish tagine and lamb tagine- we ate neither. We walked out knowing that we'd be happier not eating here.
At this point, starving, we salvaged our evening by going across the street to a great French brasserie, Paradou? Tartar, Moules Frites, Onion Soup...we left there full and happy.
No New York Chowhounder should go to Zitoune. Your city has so many great places to offer it's a wonder places like this stay crowded and in business!
