yum yum tapas! [pdx]

Was on Hawthorne today doing some holiday purchasing (money spent on others doesn't count as shopping, right?). Stopped in at Bar Pastiche for the first time--perfect for a sustaining snack.

I really enjoy the tapas ethos, and I like what Pastiche is doing. I think the trick is to order whatever they are setting out fresh rather than items that have been hanging out in the cooler all day. I had a skewer of rosemary roasted mushrooms and some excellent crispy golden potatoes, plus a cinnamon-chocolate macaroon. They also brought out some really great-looking cod fritters while I was there, but I'm a vegetarian most of the time, so didn't try those. On the whole, it's simply a cool place, and I love that they offer Pix desserts in miniature--know I'll be back for the mini-"menage au trois"...You just have to be smart about how you order, like anywhere else.

Another note: Pastaworks, right next door, now carries Ken's bread along with Pearl and Grand Central. Definitely the best place for bread and cheese (ie, easy lunch) this side of the river.
