Yosemite trip report Memorial Weekend and Oakdale stop (w/ pics)

We went to Yosemite to see the sights on Memorial Weekend. It is as crazy as they say it is—lots of people, and traffic in the park is awful.

Sat night had dinner at Curry Village dining hall for buffet dinner. Long lines, cost $25 for 2 adults, and average food.

Sun had brunch at the Ahwanhee Hotel. I made reservations about 4 weeks before so I wasn’t worried about that. Nice, fancy brunch w/ a greeter to seat you and waiter to tend to your needs. Juice is included with the brunch. Good orange juice. For brunch they have shrimp, oysters, prime rib (pretty good) a station to make omelets, cold box cereal, fresh fruit, pizza, cheese blintz. Food is average but fills you up. Maybe once in your life to do. Expensive to eat there, $40 per person, cost for tea unknown.

Sun snack-ice cream at Curry Village. Don’t know what kind of ice-cream but it’s reasonable price, around $2.50 or so. Outside in the pizza patio at Curry Village a small cheese pizza (4 slices which is the size of a personal pizza) is $6.50 and extra toppings .90c each.

Sun dinner was at the Yosemite Lodge. They have a food court and a restaurant. We ate at the food court. Had a meatball sandwich $7 which was average, B. had a lamb special. He thought it was dry. He tried the black bean soup-that he didn’t care for; my roasted tomato soup was pretty good. Many people got spaghetti w/ meatballs and garlic bread so maybe that’s the thing to get.

Mon had instant oatmeal from Curry Village from the coffee stand-he just added water $2.50. Hot chocolate was ok. Prices are cheaper at Curry Village than other places probably. Mon. lunch heading back to the Bay Area was at Taqueria El Agave in Oakdale. It’s a 2hr drive from Yosemite. Good stop after filling up for gas at Valero ($3.11 for 87 gas). Taqueria El Agave has good al pastor and carna asada tacos. Horchata is pretty good too.
