New Yorker in Philly for the weekend, reporting back:
Chowhound's recommendation for RADDICHIO was right-on. Fantastic food and great service. Dover Sole, grilled calamari, and lobster ravioli in a brandy cream sauce were all outstanding. Ran out of room for desert, but it sounded great.
Beau Monde is a great crepe place with perfect bloody marys. Delightful!
Mixto is a Cuban/latin american place in the antique district. We went in for afternoon drinks and snacks. They have a great combo platter of fried plantains, empanadas, arripas, cerviche, and more. Great Cuban drinks and variations on the mojito.
I was disappointed in the prepared food stands in the Reading Terminal food market. Mostly run of the mill middle eastern, greasy spoon, or bad fried food. I had a crab cake sandwich in a booth in the back (don't remember the name) but it was bland. However, vegi stands, cheese stands, and butchers all seem top-notch.
