So, yeah, swore off pizza in all my local haunts - Hollywood and East H., Westwood, etc. - after too many depressing instances. Man, sucked worse than... can't even say. Missed Boston. At one point, eating some pizza at some place, I decided that I would give up on being a Californian and go back to Boston.
Anyway - Dylan Yolles recc'd Cheebo. I went. It is not glorious, it is not transcendent, but it is the first satisfying slice o' pizza I've had in my area. A good crust - reminds me of roman-style pizza, like the stuff at Holy Place Campo di Fiori in Cambridge. Chewy, crunchy - full of life. Most pizza crusts in this town sog and sag and, at the gourmet places, are covered with too much raw flour, like that says something. Here: crisp, brushed with good olive oil. The sausage pizza was kind of sad, actually, but the vegetable pizza - good asparagus, bits of zucchini, carrots - each cooked to a good, firm texture, and flavorful.
Satisfying. Good neighborhood joint. Not, I don't think, worth a drive cross town, but for Hollywood-ish area, satisfying quick bite.
