Took mom, dad & bf to Long Beach, CA Yard House yesterday for birthday lunch for dad. It was very busy as usual because of tourists, conventions etc. Got a patio table as requested after only fifteen minute wait (twenty quoted). (this was a busy time too... 2:00pm prox)
Very nice down to earth waitress. Dad & I had Bombay Sapphire Gin & Tonics (mine with two limes) bf had Belmont Brewery Strawberry Blonde on tap and coke, mom had iced tea, no lemon. All drinks arrived perfectly in about four minutes and were delicious.
Upon being presented with drinks ordered calamari appetizer and placed our lunch order as well. Mom & I had the Hawaiian Poke Stack (mom's wasabi soy sauce on side), dad ordered cuban pork sand w/ fries, bf chose the chicken nachos. Calamari was out in about six minutes, brought by the manager who was very nice and asked how drinks were. This calamari was so good and I was so glad it wasn't garnished on leaf lettuce to make it soggy. Super crisp and hot, good combo of strips and tentacles. Spicy marinara and tangy aioli complemented nicely.
Food arrived about three minutes upon us devouring squid. Everything perfect and hot (or cold in the case of the poke). Waitress continually brought coke and iced tea refills without being asked (glasses still 1/3 full) and brought dad & I waters when we declined another cocktail. All in all a perfect lunch on the marina with great people watching of people from the tattoo show.
So go ahead, Chowhounders. Tell me why you hate this chain. I don't care. We had a great time.
