Say "see ya" to Jaiya!

Bill Bock | Apr 11, 2001 10:06 AM

Went to Jaiya (Third & 28th) for dinner - never in all my life have I been subjected to such awful service as I was last night. The trouble started the minute we walked in the door - there were three (obviously frantic) waitpersons handling about fifteen tables. However, we were seated immediately (although we did refuse the awfully located table in a corner by the door - why offer us that one when others were obviously available?). We took a few minutes to peruse the menu and order. That's when the trouble began. People around us were seated and served. Glaciers rose and kingdoms crumbled. Western civilization rose and fell. Forty-five minutes later, we caught the eye of a waitress (not ours) to ask what happened. She disappeared. Ten minutes after that, we caught our waitress to find out what was up. She brought our soup, but - suprise! - no bowls. We asked our waitress twice for bowls (and a much-needed glass of wine) and never got them. At that point, a waitress brought food - someone else's. (I should add that we weren't the only ones having problems - at the table next to us, the waitress inexplicably brought food to only three of the four people at the table. She then brought the fourth guy's order - after everyone else had finished eating.) At that point, we canceled our order and asked for the check. Then, after we'd cancelled everything, they brought out our dinner, which we refused. Even the check was slow in coming - one more minute and I would have picked an arbitrary amount and left it. A disgrace from beginning to end.
