The Worst Experience at Andalu

My friends and I had the worst experience at Andalu last Friday night. Trust me when I say we were well-mannered and polite! When we met our friends at the restaurant, they were standing, having drinks at the bar. My friend informed us that the wait was 1.5 - 2 hours, an excrutiating wait, but somewhat bearable with alcohol to soothe the waiting. 5 minutes after we met our friends at the bar, the hostess came by and said we couldn't stand there because that was their service area. She suggested that we wait at in the front, a small area that was already jam-packed with people. She could not have been serious, since crowds were already packed as sardines in the front area. We politely responded that we would move when we finished our drinks, as we were already mid-drink and the drinks had already been paid for. I could not help but wonder why Andalu would even sell drinks to customers if there was no room for customers to enjoy them.

Five minutes later, we were harassed again. A tall blonde host/server asked us whether we were waiting for a table. We said yes, gave them our name, and he went to check. He came back and said that our name was not on the list. My friend stammered that it was impossible since he watched the hostess put his name on the list. The staff responded that we couldn't stand at the bar and rudely said again, "Your name is not on the list," this time clearly implying that we would not get a table at Andalu because our business was not welcome. The staff then walked away, and said nothing more about checking the list again or putting our name back on the list. We were all dumbfounded. I have never been so insulted by staff at a restaurant. Not only do they expect you to consume your drinks at the pavement, but they kick you out of the restaurant for not complying! The food there is decent, but certainly over priced (an ahi taco the size of my thumb is $3!). We went to Maharaja around the corner instead. The food the was great, not at all greasy, and the service was splendid. Don't put up with Andalu's horrendous attitude, and take your business somewhere else. They've let their popularity get to their heads!
