Woonsocket, RI: Is Kay's Slipping?

A couple of nights ago we dined at Kay's with friends and, naturally, we all had the legendary steak sandwich. For the first time in my experience, the restaurant was almost empty, at only 7:30 in the evening. I think it was because the sandwich is just not as good: they used to use thinly-sliced rib eye, but what we had seemed to be top sirloin. Not the same. My Woonsocket-bred wife had the sandwich plain in the tradition of her tribe, but I had mine the proper way, with melted Swiss cheese, sauteed onions and mushrooms. The mushrooms were a sodden glop that slid out of my sandwich, narrowly beating an errant scrap of beef onto my plate from the ill-made sandwich.

All in all, it was not a bad sandwich and the drinks still come with a welcome side-car, but we felt that their standard had slipped. Has anyone else noticed? Is it a blip or has unwanted change come to Kay's?
