Just had a wonderful lunch even during a bout of a stomach virus at the Tavern Room at G.T. It was my first meal and that room and I vastly prefered it to the formal dining room with the scary portraits leftover from a Tim Burton garage sale.
I ordered in embarassigly bland fashion as my stomach was seconds from relapse. The best chicken soup I've ever had(I would never ever order this). As rich, meaty, and swimming with al dente pasta as you'd expect a 9 dollar bowl of soup to be. The grilled vegetable and cheese sandwich with totally transcended the genre with a snap to the bread and a balance to the aioli that your average neighborhood bistro just doesn't care enough about. Every vegetable grilled to the point of sweating and charring delicately without becoming soup on a roll. The thing about this place is every detail is so consistent, except the service which is average for a Danny Meyer place(making it world class compared to anyplace else in the city).
My stomach stopped me from the desert this time but I'll be back, oh I'll be back.
