Years ago, when I lived in the South Bay, a co-worker took me several times to a Chinese restaurant in San Jose called Jumbo (an Americanized version of the name the owner told me translated to precious treasure). There we always got the same set dinner from the Chinese menu, which included an unremarkable chicken and corn soup, delicious cracked crab with ginger, garlic, and green onions, and white rice fish.
The fish were really good, and I haven't seen their like since (probably because I don't read Chinese): tiny, tiny, little whole fish deep fried and sprinkled with hot pepper strips. I don't think any fish was more than 3/8 of an inch long.
Do the hounds know of a place I can find this dish in or around San Francisco?
