Westside BBQ Update

I was looking for a good westside rib joint and when I searched the postings I only found info over a year old. One post mentioned the Western Smokehouse on Woodbine in Mar Vista/Cheviot Hills. I decided to check it out with a buddy. They give you a fistfull of peanuts when you sit down and you can toss the shells on the floor -- a fine way to start. We got the Combination Plate with pork ribs, beef ribs and brisket, side of smothered cabbage, sauteed spinach and BBQ beans with monster ice teas for about $25. It was great. The ribs are served dry but they are delish. The pork ribs got my vote as the best but the beef ribs were great too -- they almost tasted like a Texas pastrami. The cabbage is smothered in a peppery white gravy that makes you want to shovel it down as fast as you can. Needless to say there was much belching to be had at the end of the meal. The place gets a four colon rating. Enjoy the ribs.
