It’s in what could easily be the worst location in Hollywood: In the back of a parking lot with no signage and no street visibility. Although there’s a Laundromat next door, so conceivably they could get business from the people waiting for the laundry.
It’s basically a takeout place, with a few tables on the sidewalk.
Hummos is very creamy, and has nice flavor. Similarly, babaganoush was pretty standard… moist and a little smoky. And the tabouli was also pretty standard… parsley, onion, etc.
The unexpected treat was the falafel. It was served cool, so it retained its texture and flavor while I drove it home. I quite liked this. But the real let down were the grape leaves. They were rigidly shaped and quite firm in texture. Frankly, the canned version at Jon’s market is better.
I don’t know quite what to make of this place. I’ll keep eating there, and trying new things because I can’t imagine it will last very long given the location. And with Zankou and Al Wazir already serving the exact same things within a mile of this place, to me the outlook is grim. If I had to rank them in order of quality (per my taste anyway), it would be 1. Al Wazir, 2. Western Chicken, 3. Zankou.
