On Saturday I stopped by the construction site of "Wegmans Dulles," its official name. Gate was sort of open so drove in. Got out and looked thru windows where the Market Cafe will be. Walked around front, found door open (partial plywood) so just walked in like I owned the place. Nobody around.
Quite a store. Very big naturally. 25 checkout stations already in position. Lots of cases ready for installation, covered with a lot of construction dust now of course. Lighting is installed. It has a typical Wegmans layout and look. Lots of earth tones, puntuated by little red and larger green tiles. First you enter a external lobby where the carts will be stored, then through a little "tunnel" which leads you directly to the massive produce dept. which fills your vision as as you enter the store proper. The Market Cafe is in a somewhat separate area to the right, and there are two elevators to take you up to the mezzanine (tables?) which overlooks the Market Cafe and deli area--I think 3 checkouts there. Lots of space for deli, cheese, sushi, pastry, pizza, etc., and according to plans I saw a sizeable kitchen just behind. Lots of aisles in the rest of the store; must be 15 or so long rows. Six truck bays in back I think.
There is a lot of work left to be done, but an opening at the end of Feb. looks doable.
