Brown Sugar on Comm Ave serves some specials/ traditional dishes during the weekend. We particularly like their chicken rice (kau mun gai?) and pork rice (kau moo dang?). Roddee also serves the chicken rice on Thursdays and Dokbua serve the pork rice regularly (Roddee also, I think).
Before Brown Sugar closed due to the fire, we used to go there at least once a month for the chicken rice, which we think tasted slightly better than Roddee's. Decided to go back yesterday since the restaurant had just opened again.
I think the restaurant has a much higher ceiling now, and the decoration is still very nice. The chicken rice was as good as ever. You get a nice portion of rice with chicken on top of it, sour/spicy sauce on the side, and a bowl of soup. We finished the lunch with our favorite dessert, fried ice cream. We usually never order fried ice cream, but the one at Brown Sugar has just the right coating texture and tasted so good drizzled with honey. Yum! I think the bill came to $24, or something like that.
Very happy Brown Sugar opened again and kept their weekend specials. (just a side note: their country style pad thai is also excellent, since it's so spicy :))
