Took some out of town foodies to P.R. over the weekend. Very early due to theatre issues. Have been many times and always have an enjoyable meal- even when it's inconsistent, it's charming. Not so much this time. Obviously they needed our table back for the crowd that came in shortly after us.

We were greeted warmly and had great attention from our server. I had the escargot to start- usually delicious, they were overpowered by raw garlic, it was as if they tossed a huge handful of chopped garlic on top after cooking. I finished my app first and my plate was IMMEDIATELY cleared while others continued to eat. Quelle faux pas! Then the entrees came while 2 diners were still eating! Without asking, the bus boys cleared the plates and then stood at the head of the table and auctioned off the food: i.e."who had the duck? rabbit anyone?" C'mon guys, even the Cheescake Factory can get the seat positions right. This is not what I expect from a French restaurant, no matter how casual.

The entrees apparently spent very little time near the hot part of the kitchen. My rabbit was way under cooked- still bloody at the bone. Duck confit had pale, flacid skin with a thick layer of fat underneath. Obviously no attempt was made to crisp the skin. Confit is usually cooked long and slow- I didn't think it was possible to still have fat on the leg after hours of slow cooking.

We'll go back- but not on a weekend.
